How to Add a Story

To add a story to the archive (assuming that you're a member already), you must click on the the link, Add a Story.

Then you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. Add a story title, preferably something that gives some impression what the story might be about. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  2. Add a summary for your story. This is basically a blurb to try and sell your story to someone else who happens to be browsing through to try and entice them to actually read it. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  3. You can add an author's note for the story. This will be available from within every chapter of your story once it's published to the site. This is an optional field.

  4. Add a disclaimer for your story. If your story is fan fiction, be sure to make it clear that you make no claims of ownership for the characters and places that you use and do not create. If your story is an original, use this to state what you are willing to let others use from your creation or just that you keep it all to yourself. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  5. You need to select the appropriate story codes for your story. If you are uncertain about any particular code, you can hold your mouse pointer over the story code and an expanded explanation will be shown. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  6. Select which category (or categories) that your story should be filed under. Be sure to select the ones that make the most sense. To add a category, select it from the column on the left (under the heading Selectable Categories) and then press the > button to move it to the column on the right (the one with the heading of Selected Categories). If you selected a category and wish to undo it. Select the category and press the < button. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.
  7. By default the chapter title will be the same as your story title. If you wish you may change it, which might not be a bad idea if you plan to have more than one chapter in your story. This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  8. You may enter an author's note for the first chapter. You also have the option of selecting whether to have it appear at the beginning of the chapter or at the end of the chapter. This is an optional field.

  9. You have two options on how you can get your chapter onto the site.
    1. You can upload the file directly to the site. Be sure that if you do, that it's properly formatted. You can use either BBCode or a limited HTML tag set to provide emphasis to your creative work to ensure it displays as you envisioned.

    2. Or you can type (or paste) your creation into the WYSIWYG editor.

This is mandatory, the story will not be published to the site without this item.

  10. If this is the only chapter that you will have for this story, you have the option at this point to mark it as complete before you click on the save button.

That should do it. You've now published a story to the Evocative Fiction and Forums Network archive. Welcome to the family.
